The IT ministry said in a politician statement released on Monday that it had received variety of complaints from various sources, including several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms. These reports state that these apps "steal users' data, sending them unauthorizedly to servers located outside India."

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center under the Ministry of Home Affairs had also recommended a comprehensive ban on these malicious apps.
