India's largest and most trusted consumer electronics and smartphone brand Samsung launched a unique industry-academic program - Samsung PRISM(Formulating and motivating student's thinking) to encourage Indian innovation eco-systems and prepare students according to industry needs.

The program will be run by Samsung R&D Institute Bangalore (SRI-B). Which is Samsung's largest R&D center outside Korea. The objective of this program is to include such engineering colleges which are at the top of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NARF) ranking of the Government of India.

SRI-B has signed MoUs with 10 engineering colleges so far. It will add more colleges in the next few months.Once the program starts, SRI-B will collaborate with students and faculty in these engineering colleges, and will be given research as well as development projects, which will be completed in four to six months. Students will have to work on projects involving state-of-the-art technology such as Artificial Intelligence (including Vision Technology), Machine Learning, Internet of Things and Connected Devices and 5G Networks to solve the real problems of the world.

Each project will involve a team of three students and a professor, including a mentor from SRI-B who will guide and train them, as well as review them regularly. Each engineering college can have multiple teams, and students will be selected based on the examination conducted by SRI-B. Students will also be encouraged to publish papers jointly with SRI-B and file patents.

A step towards self-reliant India

Deepesh Shah, Managing Director, Samsung R&D Institute Bangalore said, “The Samsung Prism Program is a testament to our mission to transform people's lives with meaningful innovation. This program will be conducted in collaboration with our academic and engineering students, which is undoubtedly the best in the world. Giving them an opportunity to work with Samsung, and prepare them for the industry, will be a step towards a self-reliant India. "

Going forward, we want to combine this program with the academic calendar of engineering colleges across the country, and encourage students and faculty to publish quality papers and file patents.

SRI-B started a pilot program for Samsung Prism last year, in which 150 teams worked on a unique R&D project. The teams worked on handwriting recognition of Indian languages and AI-based Indian language translations such as the 'Make for India' project. Some teams worked on research projects such as intelligent navigation through in-home object recognition and improving video quality in low light.

Online program in lockdown - During the lockdown period, the program is conducted online. The teams worked on their projects from home, and were mentored by mentors with video calls and webinars. Students can log in at https://www.samsungprism.com for details and periodic review of their project.

On completion of the project, all team members will be given a certificate by SRI-B. So far, 46 teams have been awarded and awarded for their exceptional work. SRI-B has awarded Vellore Institute of Technology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, M.S. MoU has been signed with Ramaiya Institute of Technology, RV College of Engineering, BMS College of Engineering, Siddhganga Institute of Technology etc.

SRI-B focuses on communication protocols, multimedia (including camera solutions), intelligence, payment, web services, memory, networks, and IoT technologies. The main focus of the R&D Center is to create technology and solutions for the Indian market apart from global products by identifying unique needs and providing better products to consumers.SRI-B specializes in networks such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented Reality and 5G. It has also registered more than 2,900 patents in India so far.
